  31. INVIDIOUS URBAN WOMB
  32. moons teeth sunken in their scalps
  33. the straitjacket men walk wet to the knees
  34. scuffing along past
  35. tumbleweeds past
  36. rubble in the unconsciously concrete tunnels
  37. past disturbed beer cans
  38. past the graffiti scrawl promises of
  39. murdering and dead bodies ahead and
  40. all that stuff
  41. the roar of vehicles
  42. from far
  43. above.
  44. Our skateboards over our shoulders
  45. footsteps candleglowing echo
  46. of flashlights.
  47. the hatchet-man is somewhere ahead of us
  48. grinding madly in the dark.
  49.

  51.              "Rusted Shut"
  52.  
  53.               down on the street nothings
  54.               moving, but trash
  55.               still scatters in the dirty wind
  56.               and dirty cars drift cautiously by
  57.               like friendly piranhas.
  58.  
  59.               Tough guys sweat it out in leather
  60.               jackets and their girlfriends
  61.               ignore them.
  62.               nobody touches anybody.
  63.  
  64.               A cluster of acidheads in tie-dye and
  65.               blood-shot stand on the overpass
  66.               watching the ripple of traffic
  67.               lights from green to red to gold
  68.               and finally back to
  69.               red.
  70.  
  71.               These lights go on for miles and miles
  72.               and probably never stop.
  73.  
  74.               I feel strange.
  75.               I hope it storms.
  76.  
  77.               If it rains I'll feel like Marlon Brando
  78.               and I'll be alone here
  79.               If the sky were only a bit more gray
  80.               or the wind were stronger
  81.               I might let it carry me-
  82.  
  83.               But it isn't. and its not. and I don't.

  85.               I imagine sometimes I will grow old this way,
  86.               thinking things. seeing things.
  87.               Perhaps.

  89.               I'll never say anything nice again.
